Nick, The Golfer

Ah finally, the post regarding Nick's golf outings. He's been in two tournaments since the last post and has done fairly well, playing his game - no real mis-hits, just a bit of putting nerves. We found out that there are 3 other 9 year olds who have been in these tournaments for awhile now. They usually score well enough to take the top 3, alternating the winner for each tournament and usually seperated only by a stroke each.

It will be our goal to help Nick break into the top 3 somehow next year. He can do it, he just needs to stabalize that putter. All of this will come with more time and experience. We're really proud of him, he's shown himself to be a great sportsman, introducing himself and shaking hands with competitors at each event. That's what it's really all about and he seems to have a great time out there. And I say, keep the plaid shorts coming Nick. Gotta spice it up out there somehow.

The Ground Hog Story (a little late)

I hold a very high regard for the Groundhog Day tradition. After all, thee official groundhog authority, Punxsuatawny Phil is from Gobbler's Knob, PA. The residents there, and around the state, heck.. around the country! - take the little groundhog's recommendation of an early spring or a longer winter very seriously.

Nick's class wrote short paragraphs about the Groundhog. The teacher chose to hang their stories in the classroom for a little while, so it was just sent home in the Friday Folders last week. I thought it was great and wanted to share.

How to Wake a Groundhog - by Nicholas Johnston
If you want to wake a groundhog you must follow these steps. First you need Ranch salad dressing from the refrigerator, two onions, two tomatoes and two plates. Next you need a bag of pretzels. Then you get a batch of apples. You put everything on the plate and after that go to his cave and dump the pretzel salad down the hole so he can smell it and wake up. If you follow thee steps the groundhog will wake up. And that's how you wake a groundhog when he is sleeping.

Playstation Party!

Nick's Crew (-1)

" Bring it On!"

The kids playing Playstation (big kid on the right!)
I thought it would be a good idea for Nick to have a couple friends over for a playstation party. We ended up having 7 boys over that night. One Playstation console is not enough apparently. Boys were everywhere in the house, running up and down the stairs like maniacs, and bugging the girls every chance they got.
I also didn't realize that boys are rough. Because Nick has a sister he doesn't really hit or punch anyone. Well, these boys apparently have brothers; brothers who hit. And boys wrestle too. What's with that? Even Craig didn't know what was going on when the WWF brought the match to our dining room (he's an only child). So, the kids had fun, they didn't want to leave at the end of the night and Nick was happy. That's all that matters. :o)
